Having a couple of new materials and production methods invented in the mid-20th century, a barrage of recent frame styles soon followed suit and large round frames found they’d slipped over stylistic radar. This wasn’t get rid of the queue for round frames though. Oh no! Whether or not this would be a nod to the intellectual heroes that have worn them decades before, or realization they may be picked up dirt-cheap used, the hippy movement of the 60s adopted the style because the unofficial frames of their peace loving movement. Now manifesting as sunglasses and opticals, big round glasses had doubly secured their invest popular culture history, being previously written in the stylistic history books within, not one, but two cultural revolutions.
And it’s the reality that this classic style can still conjure up a graphic of refined, studious authority that’s meant big round framed specs have not strayed much through the frame style peripheral. It’s why they’ve been the option of thinkers and visionaries alike. Above all, though, it’s why the frame style is arriving back a huge way almost a century after its first foray onto the frontlines of favor.
Big Rounded lenses are one of the few true oldies; Some fashion history that may still pull weight today. As frames, they’re a great rounder. They appear top-notch small and wirey, or massive and chunky. They could finish off a look which has a stamp of intellectualism, or they can invoke a sense of care-free psychedelia. Whilst they’re not always perfect for rounder faces, they actually do a great job of suiting most face shape.
