For a long time I have already been struggling to catch this broadway tour in multiple cities. Something has long been in the manner. Between work, travel and anything else I missed this show. In 2018 all that changed. I had the grand privilege of attending media night for that Lion King Musical in the Fabulous Fox Theatre. Discuss the most fitting location for such an unprecedented ensemble.
I used to be a young child once the movie was released in theaters. My mom took my siblings and i also to what would be one of the most celebrated Disney Classics of them all. The musicals. The story was new personally however the message of hope was familiar. The tunes like “The Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata” could possibly be heard inside our household for a long time. To determine my favorite childhood movie performed on a live stage at this most prestigious venue would be a dream come true.
This production is quite honestly probably the most visually entrancing theatrical presentation that I have ever seen. From a to z, my senses were thrilled. Because the house lights dimmed, the drums started also it was showtime. Buyi Zama was outstanding as Rafiki. She was the comic relief through the show. Her costume stood out and her performance was memorable.
Vibrant colors and abstract art laced the complete stage. The variation of Mufasa, as performed by Gerald Ramsey, was riveting. I had been so attracted to the headpiece he wore. He surely could fling it around like it was routine. Clearly it absolutely was.
The dancing was simply captivating. It took me returning to my days in a dance company. The performers executed choreography seamlessly while gliding around the stage with grace. I saw quite a few ballerinas too. They may be one of many hardest working teams I’ve ever witnessed on any platform.
Young Simba and Nala were remarkable performers. I possibly could tell that they worked hard in their craft and understood blocking. It is crucial for young performers to know the skill. It must originate from an authentic place. I do not even know them however i was so proud.
Greg Jackson performed fault Zazu. I kept an eye on him whole time. He blew my mind along with his quick wit while handling his puppet. I loved it!
Timon and Pumbaa were equally as I remembered them growing up. The rebel duo with the jungle. Their props were impressive. I could not help but to sing along with “Hakuna Matata”.
Mark Campbell totally part of Scar way too well. His headpiece was fun to look at too. The last scene with Mufasa remains hard to watch. Me sank because he fell to his death.
Adult Simba was played by Gerald Ceasar. His portrayal was noteworthy. There was no doubt that he was the true king.
Nia Holloway was extraordinary as Nala. From her costume towards the delivery of her lines, she was phenomenal. I recently heard she attended school in Georgia. Yes, another budding star from the peach state!
Before too long, I personally began to believe that these actors were real animals. Their movements were very reminiscent of the animal kingdom. Using their feathers, full mane and carefully crafted cloths it is really an experience that you can only fully appreciate live.
Audiences were consumed in what happened in front of them, however it wouldn’t be possible without those behind the scenes. Experience has educated me in a lot in regards to the industry. Especially how vital background staff are. I applaud all the unseen heroes that helped to create such a magnificent show successful. A manufacture of this magnitude is nothing without one.
There’s not a lot of words will be able to use to describe this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch magic unfold on stage. Things i can tell is the fact that I now understand why here is the #1 musical in the world. Kudos to every one associated with bringing this story alive night after night. All of you have introduced this masterpiece to another generation in the most breathtaking way.
