It’s been 5 years since Sami went along to France to handle his studies in engineering. He’s courageous, ambitious, smart, and highly sensitive. Sami returns to Lebanon 3 times annually, in April, August, and December.
Nada, his mother, is 55 yrs . old and doesn’t work. When Sami announced to her he could be going to Paris to study, she was proud but also anxious. Scared and worried, she started sleeping less through the night, considering how her son would survive life in France. From the cold to girls to food, everything worried her.
Before Sami left, he showed his mother how to use Skype and promised to call occasionally to update her on his life, but he wasn’t sure this be enough.
Nada spent plenty of her days waiting for that Skype notification to determine and talk to her son. Each time Sami returned home, he pointed out that her face increasingly showed indications of anxiety, which worried him a whole lot. He became anxious but was believing that his diploma from France would provide him with a better life.
August 2017. Sami just landed in Lebanon and goes where you can see his parents. He examines
his mother’s face and sees something more important: she’s smiling and appears relaxed.
What has happened since 2012
Combined with the technological advancements, WhatsApp was introduced to the world. It was revolutionary in lots of ways. Surprisingly, it changed Nada’s life. She’s a quick learner and received a smartphone as a present from her son. Sami is now share many specifics of his life together with her. Instantaneously, through voice messages, she will hear his voice whenever throughout the day. She could also video-call him even if he could be in the pub, in the different country. Sami sometimes shares photos of his lunch, weather, an article of clothing he desired to buy, and also pictures of his new girlfriend. Whenever she gets anxious, she sends Sami a message, and most of that time period, she receives an
instantaneous response.
