Mindset Series – Robert E Lee

It is usually declared history is constructed through the victor — that as a direct consequence of conflict, the defeated are often portrayed like a collective, detestable mass that follows an equally repulsive value system. Yet, though his Confederate Army what food was in the losing end of America’s Civil War, Robert E. Lee is remembered among the most celebrated generals in American history.

Rational ideas of armed conflict presume that defeated soldiers should be denounced, not exalted; punished, not praised; and despised, not admired. However, Lee is entirely with the latter. What made one man, one soldier, so special he is remembered by more Americans today than most of his victorious Union counterparts?

Unfortunately, this is the question that many volumes of books have experienced trouble answering. And, I believe which you have no desire (in this particular moment, no less than) to read content of these depth and breadth (and i also admit that we couldn’t write it). Nonetheless, basically needed to describe the reason for Lee’s appeal in a single word, it would be “motivation.”

I am going to explore this theme poor the next quote:

“There is scarcely anything that is proper we cannot wish to accomplish by labor and perseverance. But the first must be earnest and the second unremitting.”
Robert E. Lee

Earnest Labor

Today’s culture is but one where immediacy is glorified — in the Round-the-clock news cycle; to tarts that “pop” before you pour a glass of milk; to magic weight loss suppliments — such that it is easy to forget that anything worth accomplishing takes earnest labor, that we would define as being a serious and purposeful exertion of body, mind and spirit.

When companies speak about pouring their blood, sweat and tears to their companies, they refer simply to earnest labor.

Once the craft of your famous musician or star athlete seems to look “easy,” it really is made so through earnest labor.

And, when I strive to achieve achieve of running a marathon, I am going to agree to one principle: you got it right, earnest labor.

The ability to learn; the electricity to alter; along with the means by which goals are accomplished; are controlled through your capacity to work tirelessly, also to do this earnestly — without reservations (or possibly a magic pill).

Unremitting Perseverance

Lee fought an uphill battle for high of the Civil War. His outnumbered and poorly-supplied army shrank daily as a consequence of desertions by disheartened soldiers. Yet, regardless of this, he fought vigorously prior to the moment when defeat was imminent.

How often should we quit goals when things aren’t proceeding the same manner there were anticipated? Have you plan to give up smoking, however learned you possessed a huge project due at work, school, or elsewhere? Do you try setting up a habit of getting up earlier in the morning, but slept next day and decided it had become a pointless exercise?

Lee has an answer for these, and also other, problems: unremitting perseverance, that i would define being a steady, unshakable persistence in sticking with an option, belief, or purpose.

When I train for and finally run the marathon, I am aware that there would have been a little voice around my head telling me to stop; which it hurts too much to go to the next level. However, my unremitting perseverance in following your challenge — to the final line — will enable me to pay attention only to my footsteps contrary to the pavement; the gentle breeze passing over my ears; and the rhythm of my breathing — thus pushing that little voice to the depths of my subconscious.

Nevertheless, robert e lee facts; 67,900,000 is an excellent example that harboring unremitting perseverance will not ensure victory. In the end, he was defeated in war. Yet, even during momentary failure, perseverance will give you the power to obtain back on your own metaphorical (or actual) horse and ride into battle (hopefully metaphorical) once again, pursuing your goals with the knowledge that can basically be learned through setback.

You are able to that history is presented by the victor; and, in Lee’s case, it can be. In capturing the hearts of usa citizens, both through his military actions, his personal value system, and the sincere words of wisdom, Robert E. Lee is clearly victorious.
