The Magical Handshake ~ Perhaps you have Tried It? By Faith Faith BBE, CTM, NE

We all know the importance of a good first impression. In barely seconds of your meeting, people attain an array of information regarding us. They notice our face, hair, clothing, bodily proportions, posture, demeanor and also the sound in our voice. It’s an essential time because there is no second chance to create a good first impression.

This happens … the handshake.

One time i took a communications class at a nearby church. The teacher had 30+ attendees line up single file. The instructions could look him inside the eye and shake his hand. I had been confident I knew how you can properly shake hands.

Following your last person shook the instructor’s hand, he asked, “Tell me that which you considered my handshake. Was it a great handshake or perhaps a bad handshake?” I liked his handshake. It absolutely was a strong grip like mine. His handshake confirmed if you ask me I knew how to shake hands. I said, exactly, “good handshake.”

The real key said something which completely involved aback.

He explained the main reason everybody liked his handshake was simple. He mirrored ours. When the handshake was firm, his was firm. If magical handshake was a light touch, his would be a light touch. When they used their contrary to understand his, his contrary grasped theirs. He stated this handshake technique creates an instant good impression and likeability.

Likeability?

Yes. It’s similar to how we feel when we meet a complete stranger and discover we share the identical name. Or much more conversation using a stranger, we learn we share a mutual friend. We magically that way person. This is why I think of it as the Magical Handshake.

From this point on, It is best to never, ever, shake another person’s hand. Instead, allow them to shake yours. Mirror what they do. If you’re offered a firm grip, mirror a firm grip. If you’re offered a soft grip, mirror a gentle grip. Make sure to mirror the shake too. It’s by pointing out grip and shake.

The only exception is when someone offers you a handshake using their palm facing down. When you shake hands, they’ve the upper-hand and are responsible. They dominate. This is what’s called a hostile handshake.

When offered a hostile handshake, respond by providing them a Double-Handed handshake using a wee turn. Start with your palms slightly upwards, grasping their hand with of yours. Then, straighten their handshake vertically having a wee turn as you’re shaking. This communicates for them, “we are equal.”

The very next time you would like to produce a good first impression, give the Magical Handshake a try. Do it once you park and fly people. It’s a simple, surefire method to improve your likeability factor.
