The Magical Handshake ~ Have You Completed it? By Faith Faith BBE, CTM, NE

Everybody knows the significance of a great first impression. In only seconds of a meeting, people attain an array of details about us. They notice our face, hair, clothing, bodily proportions, posture, demeanor as well as the sound of our voice. It’s an important time since there is no second opportunity to create a good first impression.

It happens … the handshake.

I remember when i took a communications class with a nearby church. The instructor had 30+ attendees line up single file. The instructions would look him inside the eye and shake his hand. I used to be confident I knew the best way to properly shake hands.

Following the last person shook the instructor’s hand, he asked, “Tell me that which you thought about my handshake. Maybe it was an excellent handshake or a bad handshake?” I liked his handshake. It had been a strong grip like mine. His handshake confirmed if you ask me I knew the best way to shake hands. I said, exactly, “good handshake.”

The real key said a thing that completely required by surprise.

He said the reason why everybody liked his handshake was simple. He mirrored ours. In the event the handshake was firm, his was firm. When it would be a light touch, his was obviously a light touch. If they used their contrary to understand his, his contrary grasped theirs. He explained this handshake technique creates an instant good impression and likeability.

Likeability?

Yes. It’s much like the way you feel whenever we meet a stranger and learn we share the identical name. Or when in conversation having a stranger, we learn we share a mutual friend. We magically like this person. For this reason I call it the Magical Handshake.

From this point on, It is best to never, ever, shake another person’s hand. Instead, permit them to shake yours. Mirror their business. If you’re offered a strong grip, mirror a strong grip. If you’re offered a gentle grip, mirror a soft grip. Remember to mirror the shake too. It’s by pointing out grip and shake.

The sole exception is when someone gives you a handshake making use of their palm facing down. As you shake hands, they have the upper-hand and therefore are in control. They dominate. This is what’s called a hostile handshake.

When offered an aggressive handshake, respond by giving them a Double-Handed handshake with a wee turn. Start with your palms slightly upwards, grasping their hand with of yours. Then, straighten their handshake vertically using a wee turn as you’re shaking. This communicates to them, “we are equal.”

The next time you want to produce a good first impression, provide the Magical Handshake an attempt. Do it whenever you meet and greet people. It’s a simple, surefire approach to boost your likeability factor.
