Whitewater Kayaking and Rafting in Nepal

When you think of Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking usually are not the initial things that spring into mind, at least it wasn’t for me personally. More inclined pictures of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest and also the mysterious Himalaya pop in your head. So that you can imagine my surprise while i got a chance to Nepal and wound up rafting and kayaking in excess of 10 x!

When you turn up in Thamel or Pokhara (the key touristy area’s in Nepal) you will find travel agents all around us, and that i immediately decided rafting was something I needed to do in my amount of time in Nepal. The first decision to create is which river to go on. Nepal offers a lot of the worlds best rivers, ranging from a gently flowing river to many from the fiercest whitewater on the planet. So based on your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s most likely something for anyone! The best times to go are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run throughout the year the water will likely be at its highest, fastest, and quite a few exhilarating over these months.

Selecting a company to select can establish a lttle bit tricky though! There are numerous travel specialists lining the streets, however, choosing one relating to the other is almost impossible…Each of them offer virtually precisely the same prices, nearly the identical trips and promise local plumber in your life! However there are many of companies on the market, it’s actually a shame to express which can be soon after your dollars. It is very important discover a registered company which have safety process in place. I finished up going with GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the organization owner, a few times around Thamel I trusted that he would deliver what he promised, after doing a bit of research I ran across that he is currently the best Kayaker in Nepal, having just won the Himalayan Championship for the second time, I felt I had made the right decision and would be in safe hands.

Your journey for the river was amazing itself. Coming out of the valley you happen to be greeted by the more common life style. Women working inside the rice paddies of their saris, looking more glamorous than I really could ever achieve! Children carrying their books on his or her heads walking along the highway to high school; Gorgeous mountains in private; Random Buffalo dotted all over the scene to call but a few things we got on the journey on the river. After kayak in pokhara of staring hypnotised your window we arrived at a smaller village equipped for the rafting needs. There was a small shed (a bit like usually the one imaginable Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) for you to get changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you want prior to starting every day for the river!

When arriving at first point, I realised I had made the most suitable decision in going with GRG’s. There were about 20 rafts prearranged and waiting to choose various companies and ours was the only person with any safety kayakers. You will see where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!

And also this is it, Maila and also the team got everyone suited and booted in your life jackets, helmets, (based on the weather, splash jackets were available) and after an incredibly informative safety talk we had been off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash with your face and down your T-Shirt definitely awakens you!
