Whitewater Kayaking and Rafting in Nepal

If you think of Nepal, whitewater Rafting and Kayaking aren’t the first items that spring into mind, at least it had not been for me. More probable pictures of Kathmandu, rice paddies, Everest and also the mysterious Himalaya pop into the head. So that you can imagine my surprise when I got a chance to Nepal and found themselves rafting and kayaking more than Ten times!

When you in Thamel or Pokhara (the primary touristy area’s in Nepal) you can find travel specialists all over the place, i immediately decided rafting was something I had to do within my period in Nepal. The very first decision to generate is which river to be on. Nepal offers a lot of the worlds best rivers, which range from a gently flowing river to many in the fiercest whitewater on earth. So determined by your experience and thirst for adrenaline, there’s most definitely something for everyone! The perfect times to travel are between March-June or September-October; although trips will run throughout the year the lake will likely be at its highest, fastest, and most exhilarating through these months.

Picking Best rafting in pokhara to select can prove a lttle bit tricky though! There are several travel agencies lining the streets, however, choosing one between your other is practically impossible…Each will offer virtually the same prices, nearly the exact same trips and promise the best time in your life! However there are a lot of companies on the market, it’s really a shame to state which are right after your cash. You will need to find a registered company that have safety procedures in place. I ended up picking GRG’s Adventure Kayaking. Having met Maila, the organization owner, several times around Thamel I trusted that they would deliver what he promised, after doing a bit of research I came across that he’s typically the best Kayaker in Nepal, having just won the Himalayan Championship for the second time, I felt I had created made the proper decision and can be in safe hands.

Your journey on the river was amazing itself. Appearing out of the valley you are greeted by way of a more common life-style. Women working within the rice paddies within their saris, looking more glamorous than I really could ever achieve! Children carrying their books on their own heads walking over the highway to college; Gorgeous mountains in private; Random Buffalo dotted all over the scene to mention but a few things we saw on the journey on the river. After 2 hours of staring hypnotised your window we arrived at a smaller village prepared for the rafting needs. There was clearly a small shed (just like normally the one imaginable Mary and Joseph stumbling upon! ) to get changed in, toilets, tea, biscuits, water, all you have to before you begin per day for the river!

When going to the beginning point, I realised I had created made the perfect decision in picking GRG’s. There have been about 20 rafts lined up and waiting to match various companies and ours was alone with any safety kayakers. You can view where GRG’s got their logo ‘SAFETY FIRST’ from!

And this maybe it was, Maila and the team got everyone suited and booted in everyday life jackets, helmets, (based on the weather, splash jackets were available) and after an extremely informative safety talk we had been off! Immediately greeted by our first rapid, aptly named ‘Good Morning’ as that first splash in your face and down your T-Shirt definitely awakens you!
