I remember, not too long ago, reading an article with a prominent blogger and SEO expert about “mobile blogging”. He previously a “blogging box” which allowed him to blog wherever he was (that i thought was obviously a bit stupid and pretentious). It included a digital camera, a laptop using a 3G modem, a notepad and pen, as well as other pieces. The full lot pretty much easily fit into a suitcase.
Thankfully, things have moved on slightly, and we have WordPress apps for iPhone/iPad and Android. Both apps are compatible with an increase of or fewer recent versions of WordPress. With that being said, ensure you check which version of WordPress you’ll need to be running so that you can access your dashboard via mobile.
Blogging vs Microblogging
Obviously, your main limitation when you use a cell phone for blogging is always that things are all a bit more of annoying. You can’t type as quickly, upload as many pictures, format too, or execute a few advanced things. That you can do just about anything you will need, but it is a little bit more cumbersome.
That being said, the way forward is clearly microblogging. By microblogging I do not mean a twitter-esque update. I recently mean a bare-bones post, having a picture and a few commentary that you just looked at when you were away from your laptop along with a wi-fi connection.
What this lets you do, amongst other items, is live-blog events and items that happen. Should you spot something exciting, you can have a photo or even a video than it and place it on your blog before you get home. Should you be in the business of breaking news, this could be invaluable.
