Always searching for a whole new adventure, my loved ones thought we would visit a gem mine couple of hours away to seek out crystals and gems. I wasn’t sure what to anticipate, but I was excited nonetheless.
I realised that mines can be employed in other ways. Some have prefilled buckets of dirt. The owners from the mine is going to take buckets with dirt described through the mine and allow you to proceed through them looking for gemstones. Some owners will prefill the buckets with some crystals and gems to ensure that everyone extends to find something.
The mine we visited worked just a little differently and is what is known as a charge dig. A cost dig is when you make payment for a set amount of income which enable it to get hold of what you find. Whenever we arrived, we brought in our personal five gallon buckets, as instructed on their site. We met pet owners with the main office and paid a set amount for everybody. This entitled us to a bucket’s importance of everything we found and wanted to take home.
We descended the hill toward the principle digging areas. Individuals who owned the mine would bring up dirt from underground, then spread against each other inside the digging areas employing a bulldozer for website visitors to go through.
Using their hands and shovels, most of us got hard core and commenced looking for crystals and gems among the dirt. Lacking experience in geology, I had been worried we would throw away something valuable. Don’t worry though, since there were always friendly people around to help out whilst us from throwing back anything worth keeping.

Also, bring a field guide with you when you go to the mine. Gemstones inside their natural form look quite diverse from the polished or cut versions so many people are familiar with.
To help you find the smaller gems among the dirt, most mines will have a sluice. This is usually a wood channel with running water. You have a scoop of dirt and put it inside a sieve, then set it within the running water. The water will wash away smaller items of dirt and clay, leaving behind rocks so that you can pick through.
Take care, though, that smaller crystals with potential value do not get washed away, so if you are unsure if something have will probably be worth keeping, always ask someone. We wound up finding quite a few nice crystals and gems on that day on the mine, and so are you able to!
