Every hairstylist can recall the moment they became fascinated with hair along with the desire for creativity that it inspires. The tale wasn’t any different for U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kristyl Rodrigues who discovered her love for hair while enrolled at Bellus Academy’s school of cosmetology in Poway, California. There Kristyl was studying cosmetology and pursuing a specialist beauty education. In her own story, there’s a valuable message which can be shared. “It doesn’t matter in places you begin or how we begin. I would like to be capable of spark that passion into people where we’re causeing this to be industry much better, we’re gaining knowledge through our history and we’re carrying on that legacy,” shared Kristyl. Recommendations her story.
The start: Inspiration Can Strike Anywhere
Kristyl joined the Marine Corps in 2014 and was enlisted in the ages of 19. Her first duty station is at Okinawa, Japan, followed by an industry operation in Korea. Every Sunday during Kristyl’s time in Korea, a barber would go to the site and provides haircuts to the Marines. Then again, this happened: “I what food was in a tent doing my personal hair,” shares Kristyl. “I would likely do shape ups and line ups personally, nothing too crazy, when I a Marine Sergeant approach me and get me for the haircut. I needed never cut anybody’s hair before however i jumped strait into it anf the husband finished up loving it…and together with his outreach and leadership, literally in the morning, I had created 13 Marines prearranged to me.”
This is the first moment that Kristyl considered barbering as a future career-she chosen charging $5 a haircut understanding that was it. Having a strong intrinsic motivation and entrepreneurial spirit, she worked overnight shifts on guard duty from 12a.m. to 8a.m., then cut hair throughout the days. What Kristyl learned was profound: Hairdressers touch more hearts than heads and each time you service litigant, there’s impact.
The Impact of an Haircut
“As a Marine, the standards for appearance are at an all-time high. The uniform should be squared away and ironed. Everything has to be flush, measured properly-there’s plenty of attention to detail,” shares Kristyl. “I was taking a look at Marines from head to toe. It tore up my heart because we’re the best possible people of this nation and now we must be walking around therefore. That’s in which the impact over the internet and heart originated in, and that i wanted to be capable to transmit that through my hands to the people around me…and keep these things walk around feeling proud and good from head to feet, and representing this nation as such.”
Similarities In Service: Military & Barbering
After coming back from service, Kristyl asked herself just what the next challenge and chapter in her own life would be. That’s when she made a decision to pursue her education being a barber at Bellus Academy. Gaining knowledge through her own background anticipating, she found many similarities in their own service and serving as a barber.
