To care for yourself is easier in theory when you are the caregiver of a seriously ill child. Additionally other children, a spouse, cooking,cleaning,laundry,appointments, pets, church, other family members or even an outside job and taking care of you would go to the base of their email list. Below are a few tips to get you at the top again without feeling guilty.
1. Delegate…. There is absolutely no rule that claims you must do it all, whether you are mother or the dad. Let others help, delegate smaller age appropriate jobs to the other siblings, and divide chores along with your spouse. And this includes the care for that sick child. No one person can do it all.
2. During times of acute illness, have prepared or prepackaged meals on hand in the freezer. You’ll find nothing wrong using a frozen pizza on occasion. Or make simple meals like scrambled eggs and bacon or pancakes. Have berry available too, for a quick makeover and a straightforward snack for you.
3. Do household bills on the same day every month rather than many times per month. When your child has been ill, the periods and weeks run together so it is easier to plan on eventually for bill paying. You’re less inclined to miss a bill which is less stressful.
4. Plan to handle emails, phone calls, and other household business the same way… one day every month or one day per week. Assign a spokesperson for the family for that other times through the month saving your time to your child and for rest for yourself.
5. Utilize the social service department of your respective child’s hospital and let pride get in the way if your family needs something extra. Social staff is trained to help families handle the load of the chronically ill child and they also can talk with siblings, help find financial solutions, and liaison between friends.
6. Leave the guilt behind if you have a few minutes to yourself. Try a hot bubble bath, savor lunch prepared by another person, or just be content when another has cleaned or done laundry, even when it’s not at all up to your standards.
Give yourself permission to unwind or read or simply sit quietly playing the birds a few minutes everyday. It’s going to greatly assist to preventing you sane and refreshed.
