Band Marketing and promotion – The way to Market your Band and have More Gigs

I was thinking about scripting this post on band promotion because I commonly hear new bands and struggling musicians wishing they received more paying gigs. Obtaining a paying gig is a useful one, After all… you would spend time and effort, energy and also cash having your act together.. rehearsing, visiting rehearsals and gigs (gas could be a pain should you travel by car), buying your gear, etc. But earning money gigs for new acts can be very difficult.

When i still find it great to get paid, I do not mean to express consider a band being a business. Things i am saying is, it might be practical to no less than have your costs covered.

Needless to say, that will depend on you and the logic behind why you’re in a band to start with.

Some bands want to play; love playing; feel that playing and getting their music available is the foremost compensation there is… and the return with their acquisition of effort, money and time is the fact that possibility to wake up there and PLAY. There’s also others who work on a long-term goal like building their particular following and getting their music across for them.

Why you do it, virtually sums up.

But, should you planned to get paying gigs, here are some steps you can take.

1. Work on Your Product

Once in a while I locate client who struggles with promoting their services or products, and place in several effort and then get minimal results. The primary reason is, they haven’t yet managed to accurately develop, define and refine their product, which explains why aggressively promoting something mediocre will usually yield mediocre results.

So what exactly is your product? The band, along with your music. The important thing question is how do you set yourself independent of the rest. What exactly is it you accomplish that is exclusive, or what exactly is it which can be done much better than everybody else?

“What do you need website visitors to remember and As if you for?”

2. Define Your Music/Repertoire

Repertoire defines which kind of band you happen to be. What’s more, it defines who your audience is. I really believe writing and recording original materials are great because insurance agencies your personal music you develop a property that others don’t have. It can be that final quantity of a collaborative creative effort that band promotion BUT, does not guarantee success, since on your band being successfully famous for your own music, you’ll first need to attract viewers that will get to know and regards.

About the same note, as a cover band does not mean you cannot get paying gigs. There are a lot of canopy bands which will get paid well for small bar gigs and even major events.

What it relies on could be the novelty with the band, along with your draw. Novelty is the fact that something with regards to you that people may wish to come see; along with your draw could be the size everyone else you can gather for your gigs.

3. Market Yourself

You need to sell yourself to individuals who you think would thank you for band as well as what you are offering. You’ll find basically 2 types of people you want to sell to; you can find those who you would like going to your gigs and appreciating your own music, and the people who are in a position to hire you for gigs.

This can be the classic “the chicken or egg scenario”, in which you actually grow your audience and acquire more exposure since they can be playing more gigs, but to obtain more gigs you got to get invited or hired by people that have a hand for making gigs happen.

However it doesn’t have to be complicated. You need to simply do both concurrently.

Networking is vital. The greater people you can meet, the greater contacts you determine, the closer you can your goal.

4. Management / Representation

You need a manager. A professional figure individual preference trust and depend on to work for nothing more than the success and well-being with the band.

A manager should be a tenacious businessman. He is a negotiator, understands marketing, and most importantly he believes in the product he could be entrusted with. His definitive goal would be to sustain and develop further the item he manages.

Developing a manager might have many perks, and something of the items I see managers doing that bands that manage themselves cannot, is be objective. The manager sees something which individual members within a band tend not to see, this is especially true when some folks this rock band develop egos that cloud their judgment. Members often get tunnel vision and may not respond well with people’s opinions that won’t be flattering, a manager knows if criticisms are valid and take these not emotionally but objectively.

A manager is both affiliated with the gang and outsider; an associate while he in concert with the gang to achieve their goals. He is an outsider who is able to make rational decisions and also be critical with the group whether or not this fails to get results what their audience expects.

Musicians can sometimes be probably the most stubborn of people, and the least receptive to criticism, and a trusted opinion from an authority figure might help this rock band work to better the item. Keep in mind that the manager is above all a businessman, and that he runs this rock band since it is “profitable”… the easier to promote a band, the greater money it can make, the greater money the manager makes at the same time.

Managers should be very aggressive and persistent, an associate of mine (a manager to get a huge act) once informed me a tale about how exactly she approached bar after bar and then get denied each time and it was given all kinds of reasons and excuses. She never lost the battle, and didn’t give up on her band… today that band is a major recording artist… and they are big for a long time now.
